One can criticize the Catholic Church for a variety of things, but one thing that is admirable is that most of her priests do live simple lives. Yes, they do not take a vow of poverty, and so can have private assets and bank accounts. And, yes, they do get free housing. But in most cases, I would guess 95%, the typical parish priest in the USA lives on a monthly salary less than $1000, drives a simple domestic-made car, saves up for a simple one-week vacation, and works exceedingly long hours. By comparison, these TV evangelists are the equivalent of the sellers and money-changers in the temple who turn devotion to the living God into a money-making scheme.
