This kind of story is a godsend to the TV media...suspense, human interest, no heavy-duty investigative work needed (everyone's opinion is equally valid)...and in this case, no dead bodies to upset people. Much easier than covering the violence in Togo or some other Third World country. The President of Honduras just missed getting killed in a plane crash...who wants to hear about that?
