Yes. I think that there needs to be a whole lot more respect for differing opinions in this thread. I think good people can respectfully disagree. But I see, for the most part, it is people who did not like Mrs. Bush's comments that are being attacked by those who did.

twigs, you are one of the good people on this thread with whom I disagree.

But step back and look at what others are saying. They are NOT good people, and they are here to cause trouble and to say vile things about a man and his wife whose POLITICS they don't like.

They are not voicing legitimate concerns as you are. They are using this thread as an opportunity to bash a man they hate......through his lovely wife.

I think the main problem people are having with those who--like David C(K)orn--express "dismay" over Laura Bush's humor--is an underlying self-righteousness that tends to look at the "motes" in other people's eyes while forgetting the "planks" in our own.

Being moral and upright is wonderful--but I don't think too many Christians would be wise to pin their hopes on that for salvation. Christ's gift to us was miraculous because we DO NOT deserve it--and whatever "righteousness" we have comes from Him, not our own selves.

And when--acting self-righteous--we accuse others of "lowering themselves" to levels we assume we stand firmly above, we are in danger of letting our condescension show.
