Montgomery County Public Schools have barred parents from sitting in on classes in which a new sex-education curriculum will be taught, despite an official schools policy that encourages parents to visit their children's classrooms.
The policy states that parents are welcome to visit their child's classroom with permission from school administrators. The policy says, "Classroom visits and conferences by parents and other persons in the school community are encouraged."
Not this time.
Brian Edwards, a county schools spokesman, said the parents' presence at the sex-ed classes would have a "chilling effect on the educational process."
"If you're in a classroom and you want to have a frank discussion among your peers, with whom you've developed trust, and you're going to have Johnny Smith's mother sitting in the corner, you're not going to be as honest," he said.
Parents who are concerned about the new curriculum because they think it favors a homosexual agenda and encourages promiscuity said keeping them out of the classroom when the new sex-ed curriculum is being taught is "a big mistake."
"There isn't anything in the school curriculum that parents should not be able to go and hear for themselves," said Michelle Turner, president of Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum (CRC). "If the school feels that parents shouldn't be in the classroom, then that's a red flag for parents."
Russ Henke, the county's health education coordinator, said parents are usually shut out of classrooms.
"There are particular times of the year, during National Education Week, that we invite the parents in, but it's not something we have as far as a general open classroom," he said.

Exactly.
"If you're in a classroom and you want to have a frank discussion among your peers"
Oh, yeah, I can imagine *those* discussions.
Time to use those Internet connections to wire parents to their offspring and their taxpayer-paid EMPLOYEES. And throw in webcams while you're at it.
It's just another way to divide children from their parents.
Parenting must be left to the schools. However, they scream when the kids have no respect for those running the school and blame it on parents who don't raise their children.
I could make several comments here but the mods would rescind me in a heart-beat. Suffice it to say, I believe that these clowns would be discussing masturbation and other ancillary sex acts (similar to the Clinton years in Oral Office).
Those with nothing to hide, have nothing to hide.....
I've long been convinced that cheap webcams in every classroom, that parents could log into to audit from anywhere with passwords, would take care of a LOT of this......piffle.
Indiana teens are more sexually active, less safe***....What was most striking, Stanczykiewicz said, was that half of youth ages 15 to 17 said oral sex wasnt sex at all....***
Teacher arrested news search on Google [Be sure to page though]
Cinci... I've been following your comments for years. You're a good person. But I don't have the guts to open the URLs you posted in your response to me. Head in the sand??? Maybe. My kids are living in Berkley, CA and anything that has to do with mores in the sexual arena is scary to Karen and me. The good news is that both of them are heterosexualy and are not into tatoos or piercings. (keepings fingers crossed)!
I'm unclear as to what state law and school policy is. But why not allow parents to selectively opt out of sex-ed classes and replace them with a home school equivalency? That should be expected from any parent anyways.
Not that I mean to suggest that would be any solution to the problem as a whole, but at least sex-ed classes. The problem is obviously beyond sex-ed classes--those classes are just a symbolic target. Thoughts and "frank" discussions are not limited to 50 minute blocks or confined to certain classrooms. The students are either taught morality or they are left to the wisdom of those with whom they've "developed trust."
"they were threatened with a law suit."
What details can you mention publicly about the:
1) technology used
2) WHO it was that filed the suit! (there's a PP or ACLU connection, I'd bet!)
They always try to blame the parents...
Some of us parents just will not tolerate it. :)
The teachers at our school put so much pressure on our
oldest son that his grades went down. When pointed out to
them they tried like h*ll to dance around it.
They could not. I save every report I get, and those were
thrown in their faces as proof.....
Not to mention the fact that I have 4 other kids who have
went to the same school, so they cannot pull their crap
with me I nor Hubby will allow it.
BTW morning
If it's too chilling to have parents sit in on their child's school curriculum, then parents and schools need to reevaluate what they're teaching.
Montgomery County Maryland is run by socialists. They believe that the state knows what is best for the children. Several attempts to establish a charter school have been rejected by guess who.
ATTN. MARXIST RED MSM: I RESENT your "RED STATE" switcheroo using our ELECTORAL MAP as PROPAGANDA!
Seriously, it makes no sense that Republicans are red while Democrats are blue. That is completely backwards. The distinction and associated merchandise is trash as far as I'm concerned.
Students in public and private schools have a structured schedule during the day to work around, while the home school students don't, he said. ***
