LOL! My mom was very outgoing, the talk to anybody type, and I and most of my brothers and sisters are like that.
Dad, otoh, was funny, but in a dry humor sort of way. It took you awhile to realize that he'd just said something funny.
Another story I told on the thread was that mom and dad were in line at a dept. store beind someone, and the clerk asked the person if they wanted to pay cash or credit. The person said they didn't believe in credit cards, and mom tapped them on the shoulder and said in her best awe-filled voice - "I do, I've SEEN 'em!" Dad wanted to melt into the floor.
BTW, a "Bush marriage" is a very nice way to describe your mom and dad!
When it comes to labeling anything "too vulgar," the Left has zero credibility
Say, wasn't it one of their own that had sex in the
oval office and all thought --- what is the big deal.
I'll have to watch the tape again for tearing up at the end.
It's so EASY to tell when her beloved husband gets choked up, but Laura's emotions are a little more guarded.
I'll check that out.
As for how I am.........BUSY. CRAZY busy, in fact.......but all good stuff, so it's fine. :o)
I was sorry to see the Dr Deb was upset this evening I hope she will return.
Ninety years ago, most reporters were working class people, and I can understand why a bridge might have been needed between them and the presidency. These days, many reporters are among the elites of our society. In DC they get to go to all the A-list parties and functions. And no amount of so-called bridge-building will ever get most of them to like or understand a Republican president.
So in very fundamental way, I find these events, in and of themselves, to be repulsive. I don't vote for nor pay taxes to see my president become a marionette for media entertainment, even if it's just once a year.
Having said all that, within the context of these events and recent reporting about her, I believe I understand what the First Lady was doing. She clearly had the support and approval of her husband. That's good enough for me.
And as was said earlier on this thread, a roast is a roast is a roast. They aren't intended for five year olds.
Hi, homemom. I've missed you recently. Did you catch yesterday's Dose? It was dedicated to Laura.
You're welcome, OWF. As you may recall, I've always loved the impish side of our Dubya. So I share your delight in that photo.
You're most welcome.
Exactly, Wolfstar, great post! Thanks for the background on the correspondents dinner and reporters.
I only wanted to hear about it because of my admiration for this President and first lady, and to hear what was said. Did not know that Laura was going to get to be featured as she was, and really got a kick out of her remarks.
I think married love is absolutely, gloriously, the best thing God has given to us on this earth.......and they embody everything that is pure and good about it.
I try to behave myself on the subject...........and believe it or not, I'm really not risque at all...........but, yikes! these two have a hot marriage! It just jumps right out at you!
(Sorry if I offended anyone with that).
Check yesterday's Dose, Seven. The 4/30/05 thread. You'll see some great photos of the now six-month-old Miss Beezley.
You are one of the finest people on this forum, and one of the best things that's happened to the Dose in the past few years.
You can't go! You are loved............and I mean that from the bottom of my heart!
This forum has too many creeps on it, and when something controversial happens they come out of the woodwork, but FR is also one of the best places on earth, because it brings real life people like YOU and ME together as real life friends.
You just can't leave.
You can't.
Well put. I have a very facetious sense of humor.
Being a native SoCal. that doesn't fit well.
I think I get it from my New York and New Jersey
side of the family.
I hope DrDeb returns, too, and am sorry for any comments I may have made that caused her to be upset - was just trying to warn Wolfstar that this could be a contentious dose today, based on the threads I'd seen earlier, while making the point that there is room for differing opinions on what was said at the dinner w/o being so nasty to other FReepers.
Ick! He is everything I hate about the press...........and then some!
That's a brilliant idea. If Bill thinks he can return to the presidency through the back door, no reason why we can't do the same with GWB.
She looks like a nice dog, very pretty coloring. I love dogs, and most cats (the nice ones).
instant bookmark for that website, snugs! I am a closet Anglophile.
Yours is a very astute observation. The whole point of her routine, I think, was actually to poke subtle fun at the media. I think her husband was in on the joke before they ever arrived at the banquet.
