You said: "The result of the types of policies promoted by "free trade" is the destruction of a countries ability to feed its people. When the United States has no farming or agriculture left because "free trade" put all the farmers out of business"
Is this is what you consider "rational"?
You accusing proponents of free trade as promoting socialism along with condemning free trade for destroying a countries ability to feed itself is the same uninformed and inflamed rhetoric I heard from radical leftist professors my first and only year at Berkeley back in the 70's.
Thirty years later, countries who were starving back then are now producing enough food to feed themselves and to export which produces the foreign exchange used to purchase other goods and services from us. Promoting increased trade with the rest of the world played a vital role in that transformation.
BTW, the American farmer is doing just fine if he invested in the technology to make him more productive. The inefficient farmer has either sold out or folded. Just like what happens in any other industry. The U.S leads the world in Ag technology and productivity and that will not change any time soon.
