Depends on your career, of course, but for utility, Spanish makes more sense. Unless you live in Hollan or Poland or Germany.

Even then, 90% of Euros speak very passable English. The same cannot be said for those moving in millions to the USA.

This is true, but I'm not going to go out of my way to take it easier for someone living in this country to not learn English. The problem I see is that many Mexicans who come here expect to be catered to (and are). Everything is handed to them in Spanish, their children are taught English at school - at our expense - so they don't even bother to speak it at home, and people living here for 15-20 years still can't speak English. And are not movitated to learn. I know quite a few Asians that have immigrated here who have a totally different mentality. Call it racial profiling, but I believe there is a direct correlation between this attitude and how well their children do in school and in subsequent jobs.

As a personal note, my mother refused to teach us Italian at home, afraid it would limit our ability to do well at school. The end result is one neurologist, one neonatal nurse, and one metallurgical engineer.
