New Memo Offers View Of Mfume's NAACP
Washington Post ^ | 04/30/05 | Matthew Mosk and Cheryl W. Thompson

The screaming match between Monica McCullough and Tiffany Hawthorne at the NAACP's national headquarters in Baltimore was getting out of hand when three co-workers tried to intervene.

But it was too late. McCullough had lunged over a colleague and struck Hawthorne in the face. The fight that ensued sent Hawthorne to Mercy Hospital's emergency room with swelling and bruises to her face and hands, according to her application for a protective order. The two women were granted restraining orders.

The Feb. 26, 2004, altercation, described in the court document, bolsters claims in an internal NAACP report made public this week that there was a poisonous atmosphere under Kweisi Mfume's watch at the nation's oldest civil rights organization.

Mfume, who stepped down as NAACP president in November and who has launched a Maryland campaign for U.S. Senate, has denied allegations in the memo that he gave preferential treatment to female employees he dated, causing unrest in the office. Mfume said he left behind an organization that was stronger and more healthy than when he arrived nine years earlier.

But the emergence of the document has made plain that his campaign for the Senate will open the book on Mfume's public and private life, including the former congressman's reign at the NAACP.

Sounds like he's the next "Father of the Year" award winner after Jerssie Jackson.

Somehow, I'm getting the feeling that both NAACP and Frizzell Gray are just major scams, pimping for cash and goodies.

Mfume running for senate? Isn't this violence the kind of thing they are trying to pin on John Bolton? Good grief!

Does he knock em up like Jessie?

I seem to recall reading he has sired five children out of wedlock from different women.

On that premise, then congress is really nothing more than a major sham, pimping for cash and influence. The NAACP is no different.

We can be quite hypocritical around here.

Ted Kennedy, Chris Dodd, Bob Packwell, Newt Gingrich......And Russ Feingold as of late, all just like Frizzel.

No argument with you there at all. And Frizzell is just an ex-parasite-politician.

"Does he knock em up like Jessie?"

He does it bigger and better!! 5 illegitimate childen with 5 different ho's. And he let the taxpayer pay for them all. Thats why as my congressman a while back he fought against welfare reform. Already having him as my congressman, I have no desire to have him as my senator. I hope the people of Maryland have better sense than to elect this racist a$$hole.

And I didn't even mention Condit and Bubba.......

I venture to say that the NAACP is a bit more honorable than congress. At least the NAACP has to comply with audits on it's books and can't fleece the house bank.

You think blacks are tough on homosexual, you haven't heard from hispanics. I was listening to a Spanish station once (trying to practice my Spanish) and the hosts included a gay DJ. They were discussing gay marriage. In the past the callers in general are liberal when it comes to government services, immigration, etc, but homosexuality. No way. The hosts had a hard time fending off all the irate callers.

You know, I am not a fan of him either but how do you know "he let the taxpayer pay for them all"? That is no way possible, unless the mothers did not reveal that he was the biological father.

"...but how do you know "he let the taxpayer pay for them all"?"

I'm from Baltimore and it is well known in these parts. Not many young boys who produce that many childens have the will OR the ability to pay. There was no requirement to name the sperm donor (which is all these boys are) to any agency. Just list "could be any number of people" and collect your bennies.
