Deputy's mourners seek justice

Mourners of deputy demand extradition changes

By Ruby Gonzales , Staff Writer

IRWINDALE -- They came to honor Deputy David March and to call for changes to a system that allowed the prime suspect to flee across the border. Organizers estimated 600 people attended the candlelight vigil Friday night at the Irwindale Speedway marking the third anniversary of the fatal shooting of March, who worked at the sheriff's Temple Station. The crowd included deputies, officers, residents and politicians.

"I had a very special son,' said Barbara March. "Life has changed enormously without Dave. I do feel his presence here tonight.'

The 33-year-old deputy was killed during a traffic stop on Live Oak Avenue in Irwindale. The alleged shooter, Armando Garcia, fled to Mexico, which doesn't extradite its citizens who face the death penalty or life in prison in the United States.

This is outrageous, why isn't our government forcing the issue and bringing the murderer to justice? There was a time when the US military would have gone down there to get him personally in case Fox needs to be reminded.

It is disappointing to see how wimpy this country has become. Anybody can walk all over us and we don't do a thing about it! (generally speaking, of course)

It's only temporary I'm convinced. With just a few changes at the ballot box in 2006 and especially 2008 things can be turned around. Tom Tancredo sounds like a good starting point of conversation.
