Orlando arrests expose illegals

Downtown Orlando is enjoying a billion-dollar building boom that is changing the face of the city.
But the arrests of dozens of construction workers building the city's new federal courthouse has shined a light on a less-glamorous side of the fancy new high rises and ritzy condominiums: much of the heavy work is being done by illegal immigrants.
On Wednesday, federal agents arrested 66 laborers who they said were illegal immigrants working on the $60 million federal courthouse under construction on Hughey Avenue downtown.
Some in the building trades said those arrests barely scratch the surface.

Our tax dollars at work!
ROFLOL !!!
Illegal aliens only want jobs Americans won't take!!! BS!!
Back in the day, construction jobs used to pay good money and there were plenty of Americans who wanted those jobs. I wonder what the construction job market is like now with illegals filling those jobs.
Don't TELL me that the employers didn't know those people were ILLEGALS!
=======
They all passed their employment quiz.
Q: Are you an illegal alien?
A: Si Senor
Oak Hay, Mr. Mexican... you're hired!
Hey, wait a minute, boss ... how can you hire him?
You asked him if he was an illegal alien and he said yes!
No, he didn't say yes. He said he's a Si Senor...
and a Si Senor is obviously NOT an illegal alien !!! ;-))
This illegal alien problem is soooooo easy to solve, in a month! The Feds start busting the EMPLOYERS WHO HIRE THEM!
Why should my tax dollars pay for the profits of companies, or individual contractors, who hire illegals? What they do now is hire illegals, no insurance, no workers comp and WE PAY FOR THEIR MEDICAL CARE. Duh.
Briefly worked a job in Pittsburgh, PA about 12 yrs. ago. The company was from Texas, the super and all foremen were mexican as were 95% of the construction workers. They hired a couple of token gringos for a week and fired us because we couldn't speak spanish. Few spoke any English. From what I could gather 30-40 lived in 2 houses and were paid less than minimum wage + room and board.
Same thing happened at a local state univ. here 2 yrs. ago. Your tax dollars at work paying illegals to do a job Americans couldn't afford to do.
Victor Davis Hanson addresses this problem quite well in his book "Mexifornia".
Illegals were not a big problem in the construction trades here in FL until last year.
The hurricanes that tore-up much of the state brought every Tomas, Ricardo and Haroldo in their minivans into the state and into the trades.
Wonder what would happen if I got my son to go apply for a job down there at the new courthouse? Usually wages are pretty set on a federal job. Can't imagine even a sub-contractor paying less and pocketing the difference. Hmmmmm.
No. And here's why:
"Agents said the arrested workers, only one of whom had been deported previously, were hired after presenting documents such as counterfeit permanent-residency cards and bogus Social Security cards.Immigration agents said the contractor and subcontractor had cooperated in the investigation and are not likely to face fines or prosecution because they hired the workers with what appeared to be legitimate documents.
if immigrant workers present two forms of identification that appear legitimate, the law requires employers to consider them for a job, unless there are clear reasons to suspect the documents are fraudulent.
And here's the kicker.....
"...there are big-time discrimination issues if you refuse someone just because of their language or how they look."
With all due respect, I get a little bit tired of all the jumping on Employers when the illegal alien issue is discussed. Granted there ARE small time 'bosses' who troll for illegals, but with large Companies and Corporations their hands are literally tied by our gubmint.
Go over to the Dept of Labor Website or the DOJ. You'll see that "immigrants" have MORE employment rights than U.S. CITIZENS. The DOJ has a special "immigrant rights unit" that does nothing but PROSECUTE employers who've denied a job to "immigrants". So if you guess wrong when 'Juan" shows his papers and refuse him a job, you will face the FULL WRATH of the U.S. Government. Not to mention private law suits for discrimination. In effect you'll be out of business PDQ.
If the guvment was serious bout hirng illegals you would think there would be a fast track to check SS numbers by employers. It's mazzing how fast puters are sometimes.
