The answer depends on whether or not they remembered to pack a time machine.

I was just thinking of somthing I was told at least once:
Four wheel drive just lets you get twice as far before you get stuck. From that, I figure the little rover went 3 times as far as it should. I hope it's got a winch. ;-)

Yeah, but I'm saying it seems like we have a preference for things lit from a certain angle. I think most people will see that crater as a bump. Yes, they can force it to look like a crater. And, if you turn the picture over, most people will see it as a crater. Why the preference? Is our brain designed to see craters lit from the right (?) as bumps? Save that picture into a graphics program and do the following: flip it, mirror it, rotate it 90, 180, 270. You will see some as crater and some as bumps.
Maybe someone can post these various shots so you can see what I mean.
I remember an article years ago, maybe Scientific American, that talked about this. I've forgotten what they said about it.

No problem... The same dudes who cleaned the dust off of the solar arrays a few months ago can make another house call and pull them out of the deep sand.

Unless some little Ewok guys show up first and start taking it apart and hauling it away. Depends on whose 'turf' we're on.

My brain must be wired wrong, lol! I'm familiar with that claim and have seen some really good examples of it. But in this case, I see a crater right off the bat and only see the bump when somebody mentions it.

This thing will be unstuck in mere minutes once they get all of the tires going in the same direction. With one set trying to go perpendicular to the direction of travel, they're bound to be screwed.
Another way out of this would be to use the tooling head's brush to clean out the cleats on the tires, and/or use that head to manually re-orient the perpendicular tires (if the steering command is not working).

Interesting! I wonder what caused it?

Both of them are still working ... and a couple of weeks ago NASA extended their operational mission into mid-2006. Not bad for a couple of pieces of equipment that were designed to last for 90 days!
Do you know where to look for a map of Mars showing the full paths taken so far?
