He lauds the Minuteman patrols along the Mexican borders.
In his strongest language yet on illegal immigration, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger lavishly praised private citizens patrolling the Mexican border - a group President Bush has called "vigilantes" - and demanded that controversial Los Angeles billboards promoting a Spanish-language television station be removed.
The comments about the border patrols, which came on a popular Southern California talk radio show, touched off a storm of denunciation from Latino and Democratic political leaders.
"I think they've done a terrific job," Schwarzenegger said of the so-called Minuteman volunteers who have been patrolling the Mexico border in Arizona. Others plan similar efforts in California this summer. "They've cut down the crossing of illegal immigrants a huge percentage," he said. "So it just shows that it works when you go and make an effort and when you work hard. I mean, it is a doable thing, and it's just that our federal government is not doing their job. It's a shame that the private citizen has to go in there and start patrolling our borders."
In a statement released by her office, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., scolded Schwarzenegger for endorsing the Minutemen and said he should instead pressure Bush to do more to secure the borders.
"It is a singular failure that the Bush administration has refused to put adequate patrols along the borders," she said. "I am surprised that the governor, rather than call the president of his party and urge additional border patrol agents, has just made a statement praising efforts by untrained volunteers to patrol the borders."

Did a search on anything that DiFi has done to promote the security of our borders. It can all be rolled to fit into one word....BUPKES!!!!
Whereas most normal, ordinary people (of any race) had no problem with it at all.
Arnold is smart enough to know what the real people really think, and to speak to that.
He's smarter or at least more courageous than most of our Republican senators, who apparently cower at the slightest threat of bad coverage from the MSM. He ignores the howling of the Latino political groups and the media. I like that.

There's a simple reason. Going after the Teacher's Union her e in nutland has caused an uproar - all the soccer moms are out jumping up and down about school cuts. So the centrist types are being herded to the left, losing him support in the center.
So Arnold runs right. But it may also be because he realizes now that there is no hope for a realistic budget in this state unless you solve illegal immigration, the real cost driver for everything here. Especially the schools.
Now, that's not fair! I figure I dislike Diane Feinstein as much as the next Republican but just last week she spoke out against and more importantly voted against Larry Craig's and Chris Cannon's disgusting Agjobs Amnesty. She correctly noted that it would be a magnet for future illegal immigration.
I missed DiFi's comment. Thanks for updating us.
Yes, but don't you think he's actually showing some principle in the way he is governing? He doesn't seem to "get" political correctness. Good for the Governator. I haven't been a fan but he's winning me over...
3-cheers-for-Arnold ping
Like you, I'm beginning to believe that Arnold actually listens to the people...!
But you won't get any criticism from me on the substance. I feel exactly the same way. Good that he's saying it loud and clear: this is America, not Mexico. I doubt if he or any other non-Mexican immigrant planned on ending up in Mexico when they went through a bunch of grief to immigrate to the United States.
I don't think we even consider Mexico a great vacation destination anymore... I'm glad I enjoyed my travels there in the '70s. Don't want to go there, now.
They bring their stomachs here but they leave their hearts in Mexico.
As for the Gov, Maria must be out of town and just wait until she and her Uncle Fat Drunk killer of young women get hold of Arnold.
How long has she been in the Senate? Is illegal immigration a new phenomenon?
Simple fact: illegal immigration is the elephant in the living room. No-one is willing to do anything about it because the first one that does, will get demagogued to death. It's politcal suicide and a short term political windfall.
Criticizing Diane Feinstein is absolutely fair. She has done diddly squat about illegal immigration until the political winds blew her way.
BTTT
Yeah, considering Bush has done nothing but ENCOURAGE illegal immigration with his stupid rhetoric.
