What were the "legal" errors? I did not notice that they were mentioned in this piece.

Congratulations, your original comment was still asinine.

That's all very nice.

But she is an open, practising homosexual and as such should be barred from serving as a minister. Hopefully the Methodist legal procedures will iron out these difficulties and remove this offensive individual. But I don't expect her to go away in the unlikely event they do so.

An all this refutes my point about the UMC supporting abortion --- how?

You are talking about process here. You are talking about legalities and I have been talking about policy committees, point papers and the like among Church leadership that indicate they intend to change UMC discipline. This is not pie in the sky fantasies on my part, they have done so in the past and in radical ways that are contrary to UMC teachings of a century ago or even 50 years ago. Consider Birth control, divorce, abortion, female ministers, even what is appropriate attire.

I tell you my decision to go Catholic was not an easy one, UMC would have been so much easier. Just getting to Church has been a major problem for me, but I live practically on top of a UMC Church. I went several times, like the sermons and talked to the minister (seems fairly okay in regard to theology, as it goes with UMC) but it would have been jumping in the Methodist fire from the Episcopalian skillet.

For all the problems at least the RCC is not tampering with Doctrine. Not that there is no one who would like to try but the barriers are very high and they tried their hardest with Vatican II. Even the biggest critic of VatII, Archbishop Lefebvre admits Vatican II can be interpreted in the most conservative of light.

That's nice. It has nothing to do with my concern over the church meddling in, and frankly SUPPORTING COMMUNISM. If you feel the need to post to multiple people, simply separate their screen names by a semi-colon. There is no need to post the same drivel a zillion times.

"Negative. I personally know a defrocked gay UMC pastor."

And now you know of one that has been reinstated.

Sorry for the late reply......

You asked which church I've joined. None. I attend an unaffiliated church which is struggling financially and we just lost our Minister as a result. I'm thinking of joining a Southern Baptist church.....because to my knowledge, that is the only denomination that shuns the activity of the NCC.

She has refused reinstatement until the outcome is determined. She knows the 411.

Even the biggest critic of VatII, Archbishop Lefebvre admits Vatican II can be interpreted in the most conservative of light.

No doubt this is true, in fact one of my favorite Catholic Theologians, Father Corapi has preached some interesting sermons on the topic.

As Vatican II would indicate of the Catholic Church, what you refer to in the above is also going on in the UMC. Specifically, an on going process of defining what Methodists are and what we believe. As some would say of Vatican II, parts are good and parts are not. The same applies in the UMC, I and others continue to stay with the church to keep it as true as possible to the original teachings of John Wesley..

I appreciate the honesty in your comments, and I certainly wish you the best in your quest to find a church. My wife is Catholic so we spend half our time in the Catholic Church and the other half in the Methodist Church. I enjoy Mass and find much with the Catholic faith to be in agreement with my feelings. I also find much about my Methodist background that is still good and worthy of fighting for against those who would weaken the dogma of the UMC.

As we say in Mass, and as we say in the Methodist Church. Peace be with you....

Axel.
