Hayworth Statement at Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus News Conference
"What the Minutemen proved to the American people was this: the federal government can do something about illegal immigration other than to raise a white flag and surrender to the invasion on our southern border.
"Now it's up to every American to get involved in this critical struggle to preserve our security and our sovereignty by demanding that this administration and this Congress stop thinking about amnesty and start enforcing our immigration laws.
"I saw the Minutemen at the border up close and in person and I was amazed by their discipline, their resolve, and the results they achieved. These are extraordinary Americans from all walks of life who followed their constitutional right to petition their government for redress of a grievance, in this case, the abject failure of the federal government to secure our borders.
"And for that they were maligned far and wide by hysterical editorial writers and the presidents of the United States and Mexico.
"But their mission was an unqualified success. They not only discouraged the illegal crossing of our border if only temporarily but they also cast light on a national disgrace and I hope more Members of Congress and more officials in this administration will see the light and join us to strongly enforce our laws against illegal immigration."
And he's not the only one.
Kinda like Tancredo on term limits, eh?
I sure wish he'd run to replace McCain in the Senate.
Rep. J. D. Hayworth, one of the good guys!
Proud to be one of his constituents!
Hayworth was previously in favor of unchecked illegal immigraton.
Seeing first hand helps. Let members of the House and Senate go on Fact Finding visits to the border and get close to the situation. They have their heads so far up the Belt Way, they need a kick of reality.
Now that the Minuteman project has been universally
recognized as a success the only remaining task is to
convince Bush to go after the real "vigilantes" and
protect our borders against the foreign invasion of
illegals. Dick Morris said on FOX the other night that
if terrorists cross the border and create havoc Bush
should and would be impeached. Maybe then he'll go into
hiding and say he only thought they came over to take
jobs Americans didn't want.
Has anyone thought that actions speaks loader than words. So I'd say he is just another flip-flopper unless he does something.
You think term limits are a good idea? If the people in Colorado gave a crap about Tom's change of stance of term limits, they wouldn't continue to vote him into office. I know a number of short-sighted Republicans - conservative and liberal - who fell for the stupid term limits fad and have since realized their mistake. They took it to the voters and the were re-elected.
But, don't let that stop an insipid smear.
Let's see what he says on Saturday. I have a feeling he's going to be on the border with the Minuteman Project then. Let's see where he takes this.
Excellent. Let's contact the good Congressman and thank him.
He's right. The Minuteman project is a success. It's also given hope to many, many patriots who would like to protect this country and its culture when the politicians won't.
When one of our elected representatives sticks his neck out and identifies with us on this issue, it's time for praise.
Yes, but what's more important is I think keeping your word is an even better idea. Tancredo didn't.
I agree; we have to praise them when they do the right thing, but that, in it's self, is unfortunate.
Yes, but it's a political necessity. Hayworth would probably do the right thing anyway, but conservatives suffer so many defeats and disappointments that it's important to spread positive energy on the rare occasions when we have something -- even something small -- to be grateful for.

This man is a leader and a man of character. I really see him as president one day.
Thanks

You're absolutely right.
Once reality sets in then maturity begins.
