North Korea capable of firing nuclear-armed missile at US: US official

North Korea has the capability of mounting a nuclear warhead on its missiles that could hit the United States, a senior US defense official said.

Vice Admiral Lowell Jacoby, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, gave the assessment during a Congressional hearing.

Asked by Senator Hillary Clinton whether North Korea had the ability to arm a missile with a nuclear device, Jacoby said: "The assessment is that they have the capability to do that, yes, ma'am."

He said that North Korea also had the ability to deploy a two-stage intercontinental missile that could successfully hit US territory.

"Assessed to be within their capacity, yes," Jacoby told Clinton during the hearing on the defense intelligence budget of the US Senate Armed Services Committee.

North Korea said this month it had shut down its nuclear power plant at Yongbyon and was preparing to reprocess the plant's spent fuel, a move that could result in the production of enough plutonium to build up to six more nuclear bombs.

Reports quoting a US official said last week that the United States believed North Korea was planning to test a nuclear weapon and has asked China to intervene.

Yes , semantics

,,, I was coming more from the angle of territory. Their delivery system is less than optimal, to be charitable to them. I was more beaming in on the vagueness of the article in regard to what's defined as US territory.

China is calling the shots here. NK does as it's told. They are china's pitbull on a leash. I'm sure their missiles are accurate cause they got the guidance systems from china who got em from us, thanks to billybob. China only cares about china, spreading the revolution, world domination and the destruction of America.
Russia will go along. Vlad is looking longingly to the past power of the bolshies and to one billion chinese close enough to hit with a rock.

,,, it would only take some madman from the Ukraine or somewhere to fence a [French made, of course] guidance system to them and organise the use of a satellite at some stage.

,,, semantics, I know, but are we talking about Guam or Hawaii or the continental US? There is speculation in the open press that the "2 stage missile" they're talking about could hit Hawaii, parts of Alaska, and possibly Washington state, if it is deployed (and works). The accuracy of these weapons is highly suspect. The real NK (retaliatory) strategy would probably be to hit major cities in South Korea and Japan, as well as some US Military bases.

,,, hitting Japan would be logical and score the same points for them, I'm sure. The North and the South have old scores to settle with Japan.

I don't think they would fire it on a missile - they would float it into a harbor somewhere in a shipping container.

Nuke going off in a shipping container in Long Beach means we can't figure out who put it there.

,,, for a worthwhile sized warhead to make a real difference I thought it had to be detonated over a city - as in before it hit the ground. I don't know if that could all be staged in a 20' or 40' container... I'm deficient in knowledge at this point.

Of course she would be in support for the missile shield since it was her and her husband who sold the technology to China and North Korea to cover up their traitorous acts.

A blast over a city would cause more widespread destruction, but a harbor blast would render inoperable a major tool of commerce for years.

Remember in that movie with Harrison Ford ( I think, Seven days, Seven nights ) were the bad guys shot off their boat gun, and for some reason, the gun was pushed or moved to be pointing straight up, and when they shot the boat gun, the shell went straight up, and came straight back down on their own boat and heads.
Maybe the same thing will happen to ( Kim Gone ILL ) .
