Future Demographic Changes and Electoral Votes

Time Waits for No One

On Friday we noted that the Census Bureau has released new population projections through 2030, which largely show that states George W. Bush carried in 2000 and 2004 are expected to grow faster than those his opponents won. Blogger Steven Jens has run the numbers and figured out how these estimates, if they prove accurate, will affect the apportionment of congressional seats and electoral votes.

This table shows the effect of the projected change on the first presidential election after the 2010, 2020 and 2030 censuses, assuming that each party's candidate carries the same states as in 2004. The 2004 figure is the total current number of electoral votes, while the figures for other years represent the cumulative change in apportionment. States with no projected change are omitted:

The Census Bureau has released population projections through 2030, with George W. Bush's "Red" states growing at a faster rate than Kerry's "Blue" states. The increases in Florida and Texas will make them must win states for both parties. Naturally, the industrial northern states are the big losers.

Simple. Conservatives as a group are happy, hardworking, and on the rise. Liberals are sad and depressed.

If this is simply a migration of folks from blue to red states we could simply see the red states dilluted.

The problem with this is that the people who are currently breeding "tend" to vote democrat. Pretty strong tendency too.

I made this point the other day and got flamed all the way to hell. My point was that in cities, the most children in a household are usually born to single mothers. Those kids all grow up like Mom. Not true in suburbs or rural areas where good Christian, Republican families have a lot of kids.

Also-Hispanics are the fastest growing group and then lean Democrat.

25 of the 26 with the highest birthrates went red in 2004. Michigan was the only exception.

That depends on which ones migrate.

One of the biggest problems facing the rats is this. And add to it that it seems at least to me that were conservatives are out breeding them. My wife and I are expecting twins, are are talking about maybe having a third kid later, my brother, who make Rush Limbaugh look like Ted Kennedy, has three kids. All the libs I know have 1 or in a few case 2 kids. Look at Klintoon, one kid (thank God), to busy with his career tosee to a family. Conservatives seem to have more kids.

Is this the dissatisfied who have the ability to leave the "Blue" cities doing so?

Suburban sprawl to escape the crime and reverse discrimination of city life?

I heard that in 2004, 97 out of the 100 fastest growing counties in the U.S. went for Bush.

Democrats abort their kids to have more sex with more people.
Christians are faithfully fruitful and multiplying like crazy. In our state wide homeschool group, having 5 kids is the norm.

Not sure about that. Married couples were more likely to vote Bush than Kerry.

Creepy! The Bible says the righteous will be called out from the areas that will be cleansed.
Some believe in the rapture , others believe those who are to be shielded will be led to safer areas. When California cracks, all the liberal areas will be lost to the sea. They're all lower land masses and along the coastal areas. When the ocean level rises, they'll all be under water. It's like the separation of the sheep and the goats. Oooo. Scary!

They will not assimilate. They don't have to. You will have to learn Spanish. It pisses me off to see the US turned into a third world crap pile so some pols can seek an advantage. what really burns me is all those who because of politics see no problem with the loss of our way of life. When they are a strangers in their house maybe then they will wake up. but then it will be too late.

But how many kids did those Bush couples have? How many democrats are having a large number of kids out of wedlock? Latinos and Blacks are the two fastest demographics groups growing today. Both tend to vote pretty strongly Democrat. We will have to peel some of those votes off in order to retain control.
