The two-day search for a missing bride-to-be that turned up empty is now a criminal investigation, Duluth police Major Don Woodruff announced Thursday morning.
Speaking at a 6 a.m. news conference, Major Woodruff said police would continue talking to the people who knew 32-year-old Jennifer Wilbanks, in hopes of composing a timeline leading up to her disappearance last Tuesday night. Authorities say that's when she left her home to go jogging and never returned.
Based on the circumstances as we understand it, we are now classifying this as criminal investigation, the major said.
In response to inquiries about signs of foul play, Major Woodruff replied, We have not physical evidence of anything at this point in time, but, again, based on the fact that according to the family members this is totally uncharacteristic of her behavior and as such being the case we would have to classify it as a criminal investigation at this time.
Major Woodruff said another search done specifically by law enforcement could get underway sometime on Thursday.
Yesterday we conducted an extensive search, we had over 250 people composed of volunteers and law enforcement do a grid search of the area where she was last seen, her jogging trail. After that search we did not find her, unfortunately.
We may do a controlled search later on today with police professionals looking for any evidence that may be there, that may have been overlooked by some civilians and volunteers, Major Woodruff said.
This is so sad. I pray that she is found alive, but I am not optimistic.
Where is Gary Condit?
Scott Peterson is still in jail, right?
Yeah ... what's up with these night joggers? I guess they never were told about "Little Red Riding Hood".
Little Red Riding Hood ...
Moral: Children, especially attractive, well bred young ladies, should never talk to strangers, for if they should do so, they may well provide dinner for a wolf. I say "wolf," but there are various kinds of wolves. There are also those who are charming, quiet, polite, unassuming, complacent, and sweet, who pursue young women at home and in the streets. And unfortunately, it is these gentle wolves who are the most dangerous ones of all.
The interview ended with him saying "its a very strange thing" or words to that effect.
I can't say he sounded guilty, at least not to my untrained ears. But he didn't sound emotional at all. He sounded like he was talking about neighbor from down the street.
(steely)
Mr. CC made the same sort of comment as we watched the husband being interviewed by Greta last night. He seemed really unemotional about the whole thing. I thought the really weird part was when he said something about her disappearance being a really strange case of cold feet, it it was cold feet.
There have been too many creepy husbands and disappearing and/or dead wives in the news. Scotty, OJ, Robert Blake, that creep in Utah, etc.
I have met the fiance a number of times. He has a very even if not quiet disposition.I have worked in the same youth department at church with him. When you see news clips they leave out his statemnts like "I am relying on my faith it is all I have right now."
I saw a short clip of the fiance on Fox News this morning. I was impressed with the list he rattled off of Jennifer's belongings still at the home. He seemed like a nice young man who, like any of us, hope for the best in a situation like this.
I wish they wouldn't leave that out. He does seem like a nice guy. One thing though: if he's so active at church, why is he living with his fiancee before marriage? Just curious.
My first thought too
I've talked with both families today, they are holding up well under the agonizing circumstances.
John is frustrated at his portrayal by the media, but he does appreciate all the prayers and support for Jennifer's safe return. He really hasn't slept in 48 hours, I wish he'd stay away from the cameras for awhile.
There are leads not being discussed publicly. Really all I can say at this time. But thank you to everyone on all the threads offering prayer and kind thoughts.
Some over buy at the feminism store ... sometimes with tragic results.
I'll say.
Thanks.
