I am so sick of this Real ID Act especially since there has not been any hearings on this legislation and its flaws such as the tri-national driver's database through this Driver License Agreement (DLA) ! As mentioned before, other parts, I am neutral on.

I don't know why people are so gung-ho on this especially with some of the bad parts. It would be better to amend the driver's license parts from Section 7212 from last year's Intel bill rather than passing this micromanaging, dictatorial bill that Sensenbrenner is so hell bent on imposing on the state DMV's. He refuses to listen to groups like the states such as the National Conference of State Legislators, American Association of Motor Vehivle Administrators (AAMVA) even though they wrote the DLA. His response is always, "nonsense".

He refuses to listen to people such as have hearings on this and debate. This bill did not get committee hearings in the House. It went straight to the House floor. This is something that p*ssed me off about the Democrats is they refuse to listen ! I don't care who is in power. I am not happy with the Republicans, they are acting like the Democrats have for many years. I hate worse is the arrogance. Sensenbrenner comes across as being arrogant.

If ID is the question, why do we have to burden the state DMV's with this ? We need to have a debate on the National ID which I am against instead of this bulls**t back-door/two-faced method.

This is another thing that p*sses me off ! People want to play these stupid games instead of being straight forward. Why was this bill attached to the Appropriations bill ? This bill should have been done as a standalone. It already passed in the House. If it is voted on in the Senate, it will lose, therefore, it should die ! Shoving it through (in dishonor of Tereza) as a rider to bulls**t and that is the thing that p*ssed me off about the Democrats when they were in charge at one time.

This smacks of a set-up.....The party leaders (Bush/Hastert) get Sensenbrenner to hold off....and then they use a 3rd, Frist, to stab him in the back.

The GOP is starting to leave a bad taste in their doings.

Friendly Game of Backstabbing

A Social Security Number should not be required ! Here in Colorado until Nov 2000, it was not required to obtain a Colorado DL. They required it in order to track down noncustodial parents.

On the SS#, the original intent as passed in the 1930's was to manage SS benefits, not for identification purposes. A side opinion, it is pathetic that the retention/loss of a driver's license is tied to whether you follow societal policies or not and has nothing to do with driving. A driver's license should only have one purpose, the ability to operate a motor vehicle or not, not to be used in governmental social engineering !

Yet 10 states now permit illegals to get licenses. And many more have porous systems that, de facto, do the same by asking only that the applicant produce a Social Security number. (New York officials recently discovered that one Social Security number had been used to get 57 driver's licenses!)

You said, "Those hopes are very slim right now anyway. If he does happen to go Nuclear in the Senate (and win), then this and all the rest will be forgotten...."

And you may well be right, but I prefer my presidents with backbones and consistent backbones at that.

Why are some Republicans trying to derail a measure vital to our national security? Because big business interests — e.g. agricultural interests — oppose the legislation, mostly so they can go on hiring illegals.

There you have it. The line about pandering to the Hispanic vote is but a ruse. Pro-illegal Republicans are carrying water for cheap labor business interests.
