Supporters realize that the dollar coin is the Rodney Dangerfield of American money. So they make clear that any new coin would augment -- not replace -- paper currency.

ACH!

NO! That's backwards. The only way a dollar coin will work is if the paper dollar is eliminated. As long as there are paper dollars, the dollar coins will go directly into futile coin collections that everyone will have.

The only way to go to a dollar coin is:

1) Eliminate the paper one dollar bill.

2) Produce a one dollar coin that works (and put a president on it).

3) Print lots and lots of two dollar bills.

If it's not done this way, it won't work.

That was my thought, too - you'd have to make twice as many $2.00 bills, to correct for the shortage of $1.00 bills.

Yes, yes! Eliminate the $1 bill, print lots of $2 bills. The 2-note is perfect for the smallest demonination bill now-a-days. A dollar coin somewhere between quarter-size and Kennedy half... Oh, and quite producing pennies!

I hate a pocket full of pennies and a wallet with $1 bills. Fat wallet and heavy pants for only $6.49. Arg!
