"why spend the money?"
Because a coin lasts so much longer than a bill that in the long run it is economically a better investment to make coins. As someone upthread mentioned, it will only work if at the same time they eliminate the paper dollar
Absolutely correct!!! In Canada, I can tell when I have more or less than $10 in my pockets: Over $10, my pants start slipping. So, I buy a couple of things (like cheeseburgers) and my pants stay up. What a way to goose an economy!
Why not just make more of the 2 existing dollar coins. You get them at the post office stamp machines as change for a larger bill. Why spend more money on dies and design, etc...?
The first Euro currency in paper is the 5 euro note
The one and two euro are in the form of a coin.
This has lead to a bit of inflation since the coins are treated much like dimes and quarters. The one cent euro coin is positivly TINY. It would fit comfortably, with room to spare, on a key on your key board.
The paper dollar is anti-inflationary from a psychological sense and must be kept.
The dollar coins are pure PC crap to try in impose some form of leftist icon on the dollar.
BTW: Some places do refuse the one dollar coins in any form.
Are they going to do another WASTED TAX DOLLARS ad campaing again?
If they want a coin to succeed make it 1950's sized and put Ronald Reagan on the coin.
