Facing execution shortly after midnight for murdering his grandmother 12 years ago, Donald Jones met with relatives Tuesday evening and hoped for a reprieve from the U.S. Supreme Court.
Jones, 38, was to die by lethal injection shortly after 12:01 a.m. at the new state prison in Bonne Terre, Mo. He visited with his family in a waiting room that is next to the death chamber.
This morning, Gov. Matt Blunt denied a request by Jones family that he reduce the sentence to life in prison. Shortly after 6 p.m., the Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis denied Jones petition for a stay, leaving his last hope with the Supreme Court.
Jones was condemned for beating Dorothy Knuckles, 68, with a butcher block and stabbing her repeatedly in her home in the 3700 block of Cozens Avenue in St. Louis on March 6, 1993, because she had refused to give him money for drugs. He later loaned her Chevrolet for two rocks of cocaine.

Articles from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch must be excerpted. What an appropriate name for a newspaper covering an execution.

" Donald Jones met with relatives " Having a close relative named Donald, I have noticed over the years that a lot of them seem to own liquor stores or gun stores. There was even a store (chain) in San Antonio that sold liquor AND guns.

what is up with that parole board?
To: Graybeard58
"The victims here have always said they never wanted the death penalty, and here their wishes are being ignored again," said William Swift, a special public defender in Columbia, Mo. "When people talk about justice, they often talk about what the victims want. I believe that justice here would be in recognizing the family's wishes." so--would this defender be so concerned about the victims' wishes being ignored if they wished for the death penalty?

BTW- I read that book , and I cannot remember the name, but it had "Bully" in the title, about a Bubba Badass who went around terrorizing a small MO town, and ALL of the police agencies were totally and completely worthless in controlling this dude, but the town rose to the occasion, and blew his @ss away. There are some good people in MO.

They are talking about what the "victims" want? The "victim" is dead.
Plus the victims family is also the murderers family, since he killed his grand mother.
