For the benefit of those who haven't heard, the story was bogus; they found the loot while working on a construction job on an old barn, and the loot was in the barn.

They took the loot, buried it in the back-yard of one of the workers, then pretended to dig it up while "removing a shrub" a few weeks later.... they then proceeded to go on there "15 minutes of fame" tour, after which the story was so full of holes, the authorities began to dig deeper, and on of the "looters" admitted his guilt.

FWIW, I personally know one of the people involved; the moment I saw his name, I was suspicious. He already has a federal conviction for counterfeiting.....
