"He started taunting me and reached out and pushed on my shoulder," Preckshot says. "Each time he pushed, it got a little harder. When I saw his hand come at me again, I grabbed it. I felt fearful."
As Preckshot pushed the mans hand away, "he slugged me right in the face," she says.
Perhaps "Punch for peace" would have been a more appropriate sign.
The man, Paul Allaire, doesnt live in Boone County. He lists Arcadia as his home, though hes a frequent attendee at the Wednesday protests. He has been charged with third-degree misdemeanor assault for his alleged attack on Preckshot.
In that regard, Preckshot has no complaints.
What does confound her, however, is why her weekly adversaries werent more helpful when police came to the scene.
After the incident, Preckshot went to a nearby gas station to call the police, and they quickly arrived to take statements.
None of the peace activists, however, would give up Allaire.
Whooda thunk it! God Bless her.
What a tough guy. I sure wish this happened in front of me. They would have arrested the punk in the back of the ambulance.
Thanks for the post. This reminds me of what happened just before the election in Marietta, Ga (suburb of Atlanta). The Vietnam vets staked out a corner every Friday afternoon to protest Kerry and support our troops, and the peaceniks had finally had enough, so gathered at the other end of the historic town sqare on one particular day.
I was to join the Vietnam vets with my sign that said "Peace through strength -- Libya heard us" when I decided to stand on the crazy corner for a bit (a friend was videotaping from across the street). These so-called peace protesters were so ugly to me (I'm a typical 40ish mom-type). First they told me I couldn't stand there...they had a permit for that corner (which it turned out they did not). I politely said if they wanted to call police and police said I had to leave I would, but until then, my dad had died (in Vietnam) to preserve my right to stand on any streetcorner in America and say what I wanted to say. They were SHOCKED that I would not leave and continued to be ugly. Got into a discussion with them that did not turn violent, but their frustration with my arguments was apparent. I finally left after making my point (about 40 minutes later).
