Anyone whos lived in the United States over the past few decades knows what Fondas lifes been about sexual liberation, the anti-war movement, health and nutrition, the entrepreneurial spirit, feminism, etc. because our own lives have been about those issues.
In an eerie way that urges us to consider how deeply celebrities reflect and affect our culture, Jane Fondas life has mirrored Americas life.
Especially the lives of American women.
Still, there are a few surprises in her book that will catch you off-guard.
For example, its pretty obvious from page one that Fondas no bimbo actress.
Shes smart.
And not just book smart. Shes earned some street cred over the years for her politics and business savvy.
Shes also a good writer. Not surprising, perhaps, given her private school education and time at Vassar.
Whats more surprising is that shes also an avid reader, recently polishing off "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell and "Gods Politics" by Jim Wallis.
It was a book, in fact, that nudged her to begin her autobiography.
"In one of the many miracles that seem to surround my life," Fonda said in an interview with the Sentinel last week, "seven years ago two years before Ted (Turner) and I split up a house guest brought me a copy of Anne Lamotts Bird By Bird, and I read it, and then after my 60th birthday, re-read it, and thats what gave me the courage to write my book."
On Sunday evening, Fonda will talk about her life to a sold-out crowd at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz.

I have looked on the Internet for something akin to a list of Lib enclaves like we have started in this thread...can't find one.
Here's the scam....the wealthy libs force/keep out average Joes by inflating the real estate market. This prevents discrimination lawsuits...However, in some cities the government is trying to force lower income housing developments.
The libs call this wonderful, but want it located nowhere near them. They plant them elsewhere and maintain their higher property values.
Saw this first hand in Indianapolis....the southside has been a dumping ground for low-income government subsidized housing while the northside stays at an arms length.
BIG difference in housing prices and libs keep "undesireables" at an arm's length. Perhaps a Real Estate agent in a metro area can explain the workings better.
Well said, FReeper......
