The Army promoted to sergeant its only Soldier listed as captured, Keith Matthew Maupin, effective April 1, 2005.
The announcement comes today with the release of the decision by an Army board of inquiry that met April 6, 2005, to review the status of Sgt. Keith "Matt" Maupin. The decision, which has been approved by the Army Adjutant General, is to maintain Sgt. Maupin in a "Missing-Captured" status.
Maupin was on a convoy in Iraq when he became unaccounted for during an enemy attack.
A member of the 724th Transportation Company from Bartonville, Ill., he was subsequently placed in a Duty Status: Whereabouts Unknown status April 9, 2004. On April 16, 2004, his status was changed to Missing-Captured.
A key tenet of the Warrior Ethos is that a Soldier will never leave a fallen comrade. The Army remains firmly committed to finding Sgt. Maupin and bringing him home.

Hey friend, I agree it is very important. We must not forget. I know if there were hudreds missing, we would hear it day in day out, but, with one, should we not hear about him as well. Unless posted on FR, or reading the DOD site, it is as if he is forgotten. The pain this must cause his family, they are held in their own nigtmare.
So, I thought, maybe we should send this to our news outlits saying this is an official article and we need to do a segment on in.
Where is Greta, Bill O, John Gibson, Larry King, Dateline I mean let remind our fellow American's of this fine soldier who has been taken captive or worse.
Thank you for the comment.
Thank you for adding this to the thread!
Thank you, again. I can't believe the media is asleep on this.
The only problem I have with this is that calling SGT Maupin a POW could be seen to somehow legitimize those who took him. I'll settle for "captured" for now.
Thank you for the reminder regarding Sgt. Maupin. I just said a deep prayer for him. Please know that I do think of him and pray for him and his family. I do pray for all our precious military folks, but Sgt. Maupin really bothers me. May he not be forgotten.
Your comment touched my heart. It is sad that as a collective we have forgotten about this "ONE" soldier missing or dead and who is outraged over this, nobody.
Thank you.
Sometimes, during the day as I go about this and that, Sgt. Maupin comes to mind. And I pray for him and I believe other Americans are doing so also, thanks to you and the Internet. God Bless you and God Bless Sgt. Maupin.
Bump for Matt Maupin on this Memorial Day. You are not forgotten!
