I recall reading there was actually a conservative blacklist. They were actors that couldn't find work because they were conservative, but John Wayne picked them up for his films.

I've never heard anything like that especially at that time. If you have more info about it I'd love to hear about it. In regards to Wayne having the same people in his films. It was more a function of John Ford (who made many films with Wayne) using his stock company. He was famous for it and audiences would wait to see people like Ward Bond in a Ford film. Hitchcock used the same actors often as well. I wouldn't attribute that to politics.

Look at Hollywood now. People get blacklisted for being Republicans.

At work now and in between am looking up what I can. "Coulter explodes Hollywood Blacklist Myth" was a prior post here and John Wayne formed the Motion Picture Alliance to fight communist influence. There was supposedly a tribute by Ronald Reagan on the web but much is filtered out here at work with the fascist Websense. If I find the original where I read it I will post.
