I do believe that if Voinovich is for it then I'm against it (to paraphrase Groucho).
And besides, how likely is it for Ohio to be invaded (by an army, that is)?
Move the bases from the central regions of the country to within a few miles of our borders so that base security can extend to a reasonable section of our threatened areas. Plus, it makes it easier to strike into the hearts of our "friends" Canada and Mexico (remember, both nations have fought wars with us in the not so terribly distant past, and both have ambitions on taking things from us now, like jobs and sovereignty).
The bases in places like Ohio were mostly set up when those places were the frontier and the bases were needed to protect against raids by "hostiles."
Unless, of course, The Cherokees is escaped from Fort Mudge?

Hey Voinovich!!!

Ohio shares a Lake Erie border with Canada. It probably takes about 3 hours by car to drive to Ontario and about 5 minutes by military jet from wright paterson to toronto.
Besides, if you knew anything about military history, you set up a skirmish line and behind the line you have a mass of troops waiting to squash an enemy breakout or to initiate a breakout of your own.
You never, never put all your assets on the front lines.

Ummm there wasnt an Air Force when Ohio was the frontier so your argument has virtually no value. Try again. You would notice that there arent any Army bases in Ohio and havent been for a while.
