There is no way I blame the teacher for this.
She did was she taught.

I blame the lawyers who sue excessively so they can have more summer homes, parents who throw fits when kids are rightly punished, PC zombie bureaucrats and lawmakers who create these policies...

This video shows that the teachers have no power, and the kid knows it. This is why she continues to see how far she can push it. Once the cuffs are on the kid knows she is in trouble. I guess we can thank lawyers for this.

"They probably let her go on because they knew they were getting it on video and wanted to show evidence of her behavior. Been in situations where the parent and others cannot believe the situation is that serious"

I would have to say you are 100% correct. The teachers cannot video tape the children because it would be an invasion of their privacy, but under the auspice it was part of the lesson plan or however you want to term it, they can probably get by with it.

I think it would be more appropriate for the parents of the other children in the class to file a lawsuit against the mother because her unruly child is obviously taking time away from the rest of the class by throwing her tantrums (the whole 10%/90% rule).

I meant to say she did what she was taught.
Oops.

The big shot educrats quoted here thought it was excellent procedure to remove all the other students from the classroom while allowing this messed up kid to continue acting out there. That way no one gets a math lesson, but that's fine, because all the right "procedures" were followed.

No child of mine will EVER see the inside of a public school.

Just finished watching it. The child wasn't hurt in any way by being handcuffed. The only reason she's crying is that she's finally seeing the consequences of her actions and can't continue to act like a little monster.

The schools have little choice but to call police. If the kid gets injured -- either just injures herself, or is injured by an adult who is trying to restrain her and/or protect themselves from injury -- the school district and all the teachers and administrators involved will be sued.

Without ever being punished this little one better get used to the feel of handcuffs because she will be wearing them again in the future.

"HUH? As I recall, I don't remember the OMwhores raising NO stink over the youngsters who were actually shown on the tube being hauled away in handcuffs by the FL. cops during Terri's murder! NOT a blip!"

Right you are. Those children didn't even break anything either, they just walked up to a door with a cup of water. This child didn't even get charged. The children in Pinellas will probably have an arrest record the rest of their lives. Fair isn't it.

Another sterling example of the state of public education these days. Haven't we become inured to it by now?

This poor little girl is obviously hyper and very wired as one can tell by the videos. Probably a form of latch-key kid.

She also showed a lot of obsessive/compulsive disorder. I don't know what she was doing poking at something on that wall over and over.

Let me tell you, if I was that teacher or principal, I would have called the cops right off the bat, too. No way would a chopped-off-finger-type sue the pants off me. Let LE deal with these problems, not me.

That teacher is a saint.....did everything right, and should get a raise and an apple.

How else are we supposed to show kids there are consequences for bad behavior.

Back in my day...and I'm not that old, all you had to do is inform the parents...and then, well, I don't know what was worse, the a$$-whooping I got from dad when he came home, or the anticipation of the a$$-whooping I would get from dad when he came home.

In retrospect, I'm glad they stuck with that "old-school", tried and true method.

"I still wonder about a school admin that can't handle a 5 year old having a tantrum, though."

Probably the same reason as why a father, who's ex-wife retains custody of the children, cannot force the wife or children to see their report cards or even how they are doing in school. He is not their legal guardian.

I reckon we can thank the legal system.

We all (well not all, as there are some heavy bleeders in FR) know how best to handle that situation. Circa 2005 = Padded room, call parents, remove child, and never let her back.

Circa 1950 = Principles office, pull down pants, spank ass a few good times, back to class. ;)

I'll check out #18 and I see many here are hot on the coppers for the cuffs. You gotta see what happends on some family disturbance calls. Yikes!

how are you going to "put him/her in a room"?

Approach child from behind. Squat down, gently wrap your arms around their body, including their arms in your grasp. Stand, walk to room, put child on floor.

Tell child that when she can behave (trust me, they know what they're doing) she can rejoin the class. Lock door, telling her she can talk to the baby monitor if she wants you. Always have the camera running.

You can tell what helped the problem grow - just listen to the teachers. It's a bunch of liberal "we must protect the child's self esteem" crap.

UNNNNNGH!

I brake wind in the general direction of that BS PC psychology.

Sorry, you just 'assaulted' the child. Stay tuned for your civil lawsuit.

I posted my first reply BEFORE I saw the video----

Gosh, when I heard the policeman tell the little girl, to remember that this is what she was told would happen, I about spit out my tea---this child is obviously a repeat offender---and her MOM and police are in this together---

Hm...........if I was the teacher, I would have been angry hearing that(if they didn't know)

Anyway, my granddaughter is 5 years old and in kindergarten.
Just yesterday, she showed me a plastic spider that she had in her backpack---we were ohing and ahing about how real it looked, when I told her she should sneak up to her teacher's desk when the teacher wasn't looking and put the pretend spider on it---

Her eyes got hugh and she said, "Oh, no, Nama, if I did she would sign my folder!" -which means that she did something wrong, otherwise the kids get cute little stamps or stickers on their folders everyday--

This child KNOWS instinctively and because she is taught to respect her teacher, to even tell her beloved Nama (thats me) NO, she wasn't going to do it---I just told her how proud I was of her to take that attitude!!!

Folks, the teachers were in a no-win situation. THe child was throwing a tantrum and was completely non-responsive to verbal commands.

However, they obviously cannot touch her or they would lose their job. What do you do?

This problem starts at the family level.

Next, the courts have lost all sense of reality so that discipline is reduced to "No, you can't do that" with absolutly no consequences.

IF common sense reigned, this girl would be paddled immediately in front of the class. Tantrum over.

"Of course they could have called in the Animal Control and had her shot with a tranquilizer dart".

As I wipe soda off my monitor, I find only one flaw with your solution. It flies in the face of the public school interpretation of "common sense" to actually treat a wild animal like a wild animal. LOL!!!
