The girl's teacher videotaped her class that day as a self-improvement exercise. An attorney calls the arrest "absurd" and "excessive."

Perfect quote. Spot on.
But of course, spanking would damage her self-esteem, so we can't have that.
Pardon me for asking, but why not, if leaving the child unrestrained poses physical risk to him/herself or others, and the child has resisted less restrictive attempts to resolve the situation?
Are you suggesting that an alternate physical restraint be used, or that none at all should ever be considered regardless of the circumstances?
Quite a lot...where would we start?
The cops handcuffing a wild kid is not at the top of the list though.
I've already gotten some mileage out of this with my 4.5 year old wild man.
LOL....we saw the video on FOX....I told him...."See I told ya so...it can happen when you act ugly or don't listen to folks"...LOL....his eyes got big as moons.
Yeah, that was my reaction to her too. I don't think you were seeing a garden variety temper tantrum. Something tells me this is just an omen of what is to come, especially given her mother's reaction.
In my admittedly limited experience, you just don't see many five year old girls assaulting their teachers. At that age, isn't it more typical for girls to actually like their teachers?
That child needed to be restrained. Their options for restraining her were cuffs, hog tying, jail, or straight jacket. Which of the oother options would you choose?
This was supposed to have taught her what happens to people who behave as she was behaving. Let me ask you. Do you think that when she's 15 and acts like a criminal that she will be treated like a small child, or will they slap cuffs on her and haul her off to jail. She won't always be a cute little kid. You didn't offer any advice on how to handle it even though I asked for it in my last post. You don't have any answers. Just complaints.
They tried every touchy feely talky approach known to man. This kid is incorrigible, and receives no discipline at home. I am a mother and former law enfoircemetn officer. I have seen other people's children arrested, and swore that I would teach them as youngsters to behave and abide by the law.
This child's mother has taught her to disrespect teachers, police and every other authority figure. Soon, she will disrespect Mommy too. Heaven help the people around her then.
Amen!
Well said!!!!
Noted.......and remembered. I have a hard time with "kids" these days unless I spend some time with them. There are some you cannot turn around. Believe me.

"Now, maybe we SHOULD consider your words also....."
Well, now I'm on a mission! LOL!
Down with the Queen's English, up with the new and improved Americanized English.
Please you have posed bo argument that presents a case for handcuffing this child...
She posed no risk to herself or anyone...
Cheers
I have two children passion... Good children... So I am sorry to sadden you... You are pathetic... The child should never have been handcuffed...
Clearly the child has behavorial problems and should be dealt with appropriately... a bunch of red neck florida cops are not what I call specialists... Just because they are police doesn't mean they are candidates for MENSA...
They are wrong to have cuffed this child...
LOL---maybe we could call it, what? Ambonics?
The principal, if that who the heavy set women is, handled herself well. The kid needed a good swat but of course she could not do that.
Once again, you offer no wisdom on how this child SHOULD have been handled. Only criticism.
The teachers and principal are supposed to be experts, and they received college courses on dealing with kids. I'm sure they receive continuing education on how to deal with kids, but if you want to insist that they aren't expert, go right ahead. You have lost all credibility here anyway.
It has only been in recent years that we came up with the concept of discussing everything with kids and having no consequences for their bad behavior. You are spending your posts here defending an extreme minority view, that the dear little tyke should have had nothing more than a stern talking to over the violent and destructive acts she was carrying out. Did you miss the point that she was hitting people?
Will you recognize her in a few short years when you see her on "COPS" handcuffed again? She will be the one high on crack, beating up other people for money to support her habit because having been spoken to sternly as a child didn't leave a lasting impression on her. Now is when the adults in her life should be setting limits for her.
How dare you call me pathetic. You have no clue what you are talking about, and many freepers on this post have told you as much.
I have asked you for your idea of what should have been done, and you don't know. Clueless! The teachers, principal and campus police didn't have the sweet time that you have to come up with a solution. They had to deal with the problem child right then and there. On the spot, without consulting every soft headed do gooder that had opinions but no brains.
I'm sorry that you have children.
Who are you jrabbit other than some two bit follower...
Passion...
Never said that the girl shouldn't have been restrained... please reread what I posted... I said the girl should never have been cuffed... Again, specialsts should have been brought in to deal with this not a bunch of red necks... "What should we do'" "Duh, I don't know...we could handcuff the five year old."
Please...
I stand by my original post to you.....especially after receiving the offensive private message you just sent to me.
Don't bother sending me any more of your filth. I won't be reading it. Or responding to you on this thread.
Have a nice evening...
