"All kids are ADD now, we should just start drugging all of them at birth < /sarcasm>"

We don't drug girls.

I was replying "Exactly" to HairOfTheDog's previous post, #90, I believe---I wasn't commenting on the ADD/drugs post, thank you---

I have a problem with assuming ANY child that acts up has ADD---I don't believe that, and I don't know that I would put one of my children on medication for it at all..

Therefore, I do distance myself, BUT I also noticed that HairOfTheDog's post had a sarcasm tag on it---

She was sitting when the police came... At that point they did not need to cuff her... Anyway... You should never cuff a child... Bullshit... No way...

You're right. They needed to cuff her because she would have immediately started kicking and screaming the minute they tried to move her, which she did. There is nothing horrifying or painful about handcuffing her. The kid was throwing a fit, she needed to be physically stopped from throwing a fit. The cops are apparently the only ones that can still do that, unless someone can get us some better lawyers fast.

It was sarcasm. I don't think many of the kids we're drugging now need anything but discipline. :~D

Trust me--I saw the sarcasm tag and I had read your previous post, so I knew your opinion was okay by me---

Oh, my gosh, I am watching Fox News and the Judge and a man named Gardiere are talking about how she will have Post traumatic stress disorder in the future and being traumatized for life because of this---

Puh-leeeze---it is this kind of talked that put her in this shape---the whole thing started prolly because of our treatment of kids now days---no discipline at home!

I saw it too.... When he said "Dare I say it is racist?" I couldn't leap for my remote fast enough to change the channel. Utterly ridiculous.

An adult, a cop cant physically control a child... no need to handcuff... You don't handcuff a child for screaming...

The kid was not throwing a fit at the time she was pulled from the table and cuffed..

She was acting out like some five (5) year olds do... You don't cuff a child..

Sorry...

I don't have a problem with it. The choice is physically restrain her, or walk around saying "You need to stop now" until the child just gets tired. I'll vote for the former, without splitting hairs on how they do it.

You do if you are a cop. You do if you aren't allowed to swat her and push her down in a chair and hold her there. She was sitting down when they got there mostly because she couldn't think of any new mischief, but she would have acted up again as soon as someone tried to move her forward, and we've got these teachers absolutely hogtied on how to handle kids that don't respond to words.

Myself, if I were the teacher, I'd have pushed pulled or drug her into a rubber room, turned out the lights, and closed the door. That idea was mentioned upthread and is something schools should be allowed to consider.

When I first heard this on the radio, I was saddened and felt sorry for the little girl. After seeing the tapes, I think she is a spoiled little brat, her parents must be numbskulls, and no teacher deserves to be abused like that.

Did you listen to the tape?

The policeman was telling her that he was doing what SHE HAD BEEN TOLD WOULD BE DONE BY HER MOTHER AND THEM---

In other words, she had been told previously (for some reason unexplained, conveniently) that she would get handcuffed if she acted this way--

NOW, I would be really upset if my 5 year old granddaughter was handcuffed, I admit, but we DON'T KNOW what happened before do we? Since the police mentioned that she had been warned, perhaps they wouldn't have done it to any other child, but this was an exception that had been planned at an earlier time if she "acted out" again---WE DON'T KNOW...

Therefore, I suggest that WE FREEPERS keep from getting mad at each other until all the facts come out, however I DO agree with the overall sentiment that 5 year olds DO NOT get handcuffed, fair enough?

Bill her momma for the destroyed property, and just maybe SHE will see that there are consequences to the misbehavior of her little daughter. Transferring her to another school does not solve her problem.

Would it be perverse or abnormal to take pleasure in the little brat's crying when the cuffs are applied?

I would have told the child, "If you assault me again. I will physically restrain you." Damn the lawsuit.

There is only one thing more idiotic than handcuffing a 5 year old, that is supporting handcuffing a 5 year old.

As an educator, I think they did a great job. I can only say if they did it differently that there would be law suits and you would be paying more taxes. We can not touch students and I personally will not intervene other than verbally if there is a fight. I have been injured breaking up a fight between two girls and I don't find that job description in my contract and I served in Korea in the US Army. Students who are out of control can cause great physical harm.
