...and I might agree with you. I certainly do agree that, in most murder cases for instance, the penalty exacted is not morally sufficient.
But what then? Our courts exacted the price they set. Is it our place to hound the person until he commmits a second crime -- self-murder? Or are they advocating (as some here actually seem to be doing) that THEY will exact this penalty, by themselves committing the crime of murder?

I would hope no one here would be involved in such a thing. I'm not sure I know the answer. I would agree with you that in almost every instance, you do the crime, you do the time, and that's it. But with this particular crime, the recidivism rate is so high, and the consequences so dreadful, that it's not obviously wrong to think that there might be some consequence besides incarceration. Again, not sure what that is.
