Same for a 92FS, as long as the safety is in de-cock

A police officer from the greater Cincinnati area was attending to some court business (not in uniform) went to the bathroom and lost his weapon in the process. Apparently fell out of the holster while he was in one of the stalls. Noticed it was missing a short time later ... but it was gone by then. The weapon is still missing ... this incident occurred three weeks ago. Further point of interest, the officer who lost his weapon is the same police officer who killed a black youngster (a few years ago) during a foot chase thru a dark alley ... which, in turn, sparked the Cincinnati race riot.

Can you immagine the look on the faces of everyone when the other cops barge into the restroom with 'guns' drawn?
To: TC Rider
Heh ... can't blame this one on a lady policeman.

Brings new meaning to "Firing one off"
LOL
To: stm
A Beretta 92FS will not go off when dropped, safety in de-cock or not...
There is a firing pin block that must be deactivated by a pull of the trigger. If the trigger pull has not deactivated the firing pin block, even an impact to a hammer in the down position will not cause the firing pin to strike the primer of cartridge held in the chamber. Look closely at a 92FS when you dry fire it and you'll notice a small rectangular extension that protrudes from the top of the slide, behind the breechface. That is your firing pin block being disengaged.

It also brings a new meaning to the phrase "pot shot".

NEW: Officer's gun fires when it falls in restroom Web Posted: 04/20/2005 03:11 PM CDT
Mary Moreno
Express-News Staff Writer
An off-duty police officers weapon accidentally discharged twice when it fell from the officers waistband as he was using the bathroom at an auto auction house, police said.
The bullets fired from Officer Craig Clancys gun didnt hurt anyone, but a round did chip off a minute fragment from the flooring that pierced the leg of a man washing his hands.
The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. today at the San Antonio Auto Auction, 2042 Ackerman Road.
San Antonio police Sgt. Gabe Trevino, the departments spokesman, said it wasnt immediately known why Clancy was at the auction house, but that he wasnt working.
The gun fell from Clancys waistband and went off when he tried to keep it from falling to the ground, Trevino said.
The man hit by the chipped flooring was taken to Southeast Baptist Hospital to be checked out.
The departments shooting team is investigating.

Glocks will not "go off" when dropped....even with a round in the chamber. That's what TC said, let it fall, it will be safe. But don't grab for it, or you may pull the trigger and fire the Glock.
