Playboy offers free pics for your PSP

Owners of the new PlayStation Portable handheld video game player can now take adult magazine Playboy on the road with them--and they don't have to bother with the articles.

The online arm of Playboy Enterprises on Wednesday said it will offer photo galleries and videos shot and edited specifically for the PSP.

Playboy said it has shot a "sci-fi themed" spread of model Amy Cooper that was formatted for viewing on the PSP's wide-angle screen.

Playboy said "PlayboyStation Portable" is available for free, in the form of two non-nude picture galleries and one free video. Subscribers to Playboy's online service can access premium nude content.

The company last year created an "iBod" feature formatted for Apple Computer's iPod photo digital music player and picture viewer.

Sony released the PSP on March 24 in North America, and it sold more than 600,000 units in a week.

It's annoying enough when there is someone on a mobile on the train, or with a loud ipod, this can't help.

Playboy is so sixties. Who needs to pay for photos of naked women, anymore?

Actually, the air brushing is pretty much a muth. It's mostly about makeup and lighting.

They are Photoshopped extensively, now. Think of them as being like a painting more than a photograph.

Do you have evidence for your belief? Mine is based on the words of professional photographers in the glamour magazine industry.

I haven't worked with any of the Playboy people, but I've been doing professional photography for several years. There's a lot of make up, but they also use the healing brush, clone tools and change the aspect ratio to elongate the figure (or shorten it). I haven't seen a Playboy centerfold in probably about seven years, but yeah, they're extensively post-worked, or at least they used to be. This is true of all glamour photography. I saw a work up of the notation sheets for a People magazine cover of Michelle Pfieffer a few years ago, and they had notations to remove wrinkles from the neck, hair from the ears and below the nose, wrinkles from around the eyes, forehead lines, and slight skin discolorations. In some of the older Playboys, you could see freckles and birthmarks on the Playmates in the regular photos, but they wouldn't be in the centerfold image. Some of these photos were obviously from the same photo session as the centerfold shot, so unless they redid the makeup differently, it would seem to me that it was probably post-production work that took the defects out. Most of the glamour photographers for big outfits don't do their own retouching, so they may not know exactly how much retouching is done on a photo.
