It's not about elevating animals to the level of humans but lowering humans to the level of animals. It was Ingrid Newkirk that said children should be seen as equal to rats.

They would...until they learn that any form of stem-cell therapy, fetal or not, will first have to be tested on animals before we can safely proceed to testing it on humans
