Rush just announced that Santorum is backing off the nuclear option citing internal polls that say people think the Pubs would be destroying the time honored tradition of the Senate. Santorum isn't really backing off. He's just noted that polls show a public swayed by media, and not persuaded by the GOP message ("What message is that?" I wonder aloud). Santorum notes that Senate leadership is in control of the timing and unfolding of a possible restoration of Constitutional principle to the Senate's advice and consent role.
I'm not holding my breath either, but a fair reading of Santorum's comments is not that he advocates backing off indefinitely.
