Pro-life Dem Sabotaged by Pro-choicers
NewsMax ^ | 4/20/05 | Fr. Mike Reilly

After announcing several months ago that he intended to challenge pro-abortion Rhode Island Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, Rep. Jim Langevin, a pro-life Democrat, decided last month against making the run - despite the fact that he was a favorite to win.

Langevin says he became pro-life after a life-altering experience. When he was sixteen years old, he was wounded by a gunshot and has been in a wheelchair ever since. He says now that the episode forced him to appreciate "how precious life is."

So what prompted Langevin to abandon his Chafee challenge?

Influential Democrats, upset over his pro-life stand, pulled the rug out from under his campaign.

Absolutely furious that the Democratic Party might field a pro-life candidate, NARAL, NOW, and the Hollywood Left all complained about Langevin.

"Political compromise is not the prescription for defending the party's values," ex-NARAL head Kate Michelman groused, before organizing a fundraiser for Langevin's pro-abortion Democratic primary opponent.

Apparently the Democratic Party's core constituencies would rather lose elections that moderate their stance on abortion.

Granted I don't know anything else about Jim Langevin, but maybe he could be persuaded to challenge the RINO Chafee for the GOP nomination.

He can't be much worse than Chafee, and besides, recruiting Langevin for the GOP primary could be a good way to get some payback on one of the worst RINOs we have. Karl Rove, are you listening?

The 11th commandment for Democrats; Thou shalt not be Pro-Life!

I'd happily vote for a genuine pro-life Democrat over a pro-choice RINO. But his own party won't back him or her - its too much in love with Death to change its ways, even though it might help them to win an election.

So much for the evil totalitarian ruling class allowing democrats to have pro-life positions. That openness lasted 0.00023 nanaoseconds.

Which is more time than the democrat national convention will ever allow for an open discussion on this matter.

"Political compromise is not the prescription for defending the party's values," ex-NARAL head Kate Michelman groused ... Well that pretty well says what we all already knew, the Democrat Party is founded on serial killing and degeneracy. [Yes, slaughtering alive unborn children is degeneracy, and so is the unending manic defense of same ... homosexuality isn't the only form of degeneracy.]

I agree (and so stated) that his other views are important, on the other hand it's not as if Chafee has been supportive of Second Amendment issues.

Massive taxes, totalitarian micro-control over every aspect of our lives, wealth for corrupt trial lawyers, murdering babies and anal sex between men: The core central goals of the democrat party.

From what I've read, Rhode Island is sooooo far to the left that there is absolutely zero chance of a conservative being elected. I believe that abortion is one of, if not the most, important domestic issue in America; so, if this other guy is pro-life, it's at least a start.

2003-2004 Senator Chafee supported the interests of the American Civil Liberties Union 67 percent in 2003-2004. 2003 Senator Chafee supported the interests of the Republican Liberty Caucus on personal liberties 70 percent in 2003. 2002 Senator Chafee supported the interests of the Republican Liberty Caucus on personal liberties 51 percent in 2002. 2001-2002 On the votes that the American Civil Liberties Union considered to be the most important in 2001-2002 , Senator Chafee voted their preferred position 60 percent of the time. 2000 On the votes that the American Civil Liberties Union considered to be the most important in 2000 , Senator Chafee voted their preferred position 100 percent of the time.

Anyone ousting a Chafee is OK in my book. Seems he likes the ACLU a lot.

Chafee is Kennedy spelled with a "C"

This is why conservatives [not the guy in question but conservatives in general] should never compromise their beliefs.

You never hear about the MSM complaining that the Dems are "intolerant" or that they don't "reach out" and become moderate. But damn if a pro-choice Republican is not supported by the GOP or the party faithful. You'll never hear the end of it.

SO much for the Democratic "big tent", notwithstanding Casey Jr. and Hillary.

Jim Langevin is very pro-labor union. He won't switch to the GOP. The RATS will only support pro-lifers if they are challenging vulnerable Pro-Life Republicans. If a race is an open seat or the Republican is pro-choice, then pro-life RATs need not apply.

"Influential Democrats, upset over his pro-life stand, pulled the rug out from under his campaign."

So .. while Dean is trying to enlist pro-life dems to run against pro-life repubs .. the ultra left wing of the party is forcing the dems out of the race. Amazing!

The dems have no idea what they're doing.
