This article and the photo I posted in #28 remind me of Pius XII when he went into the streets of Rome after the bombing to be with the faithful. I have a feeling there will be more parallels between them.

Very weird to the the Pope out greeting crowds like that. JPII was unable to do that for so long. More power to Benedict XVI if he's able to do it.

It looks like he is going in Pope John Paul's II footsteps as the " THE POPE OF THE PEOPLE " .
I think as a Cardinal Joe Ratzinger learned a valuable lesson from John Paul II to be there for the people.

Yes.. your right,,, this reminds me of the photos of president Bush on his champaign stops and rallies during the Presidential champaign last year, he loved the people, and the people loved him.
Can we get someone to bring up some photos for the comparison ?
