Yes you can. Bishop O'Brien defrocked a friend of mine, Father Tom Doyle, for writing a letter about a shortage of chaplains and how to scale back daily mass at some locations. Of course this was his pretext--the issue was really Father Doyle's speaking out against the sex abuse and cover up.
Just because O'Brien had that power doesn't make it right. Was the Bishop involved in any sex abuse scandals?
