Whatever happened to the sacred oath of secrecy?

Maybe they kept their fingers crossed.

There was spontaneous applause as soon as cardinals realized Ratzinger had won, Meisner said.

Cardinal Joachim Meisner told reporters Tuesday night that the new Pope Benedict XVI was elected on the fourth ballot - the first of the afternoon session. He added that Ratzinger got more than the required two-thirds support.

Umm, this info wasn't secret.

Everyone could tell by looking at their watch it was the 4th ballot.

And the only way you can win on the 4th ballot is to get a 2/3 vote or better.

Someone said on the news that Cardinal Daneels skipped the dinner. Is this true?

Look at that picture. Imitation of Christ. Imagine a cross behind the new Pope.

I heard a clip of Mahony (!) on the radio this a.m. I forget his exact words (shock, I guess), but he said something to the effect of how pleased he was at the election of the new Pope -- he said it like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Or like he knows which side his bread is buttered on?

He was just waving. Don't make him out to be more than he is. He's just a man.

Yeah, probably. There were an awful lot of priests doing the happy dance yesterday.

If he did, maybe it was because of the bean soup and cold cuts.

ROFL!

Cardinal Eagan had a similar reaction. In fact, he said that catholics are in for a pleasant surprise.

Surely they're talking about last night's successful return of Matt Morris, and the return home for tonight's opener in the '05 Cards vs. Cubs rivalry!

His eminence has gotta be really bummed -- he's gonna get a lot more lonely in the next few years until his resignation is snatched up on his 75th birthday. I look forward to watching the rise of "JPII bishops" in the US hierarchy. We need more good leadership to go along with Rigali and George.

How Clintonesque. Ratzinger would be the last person Hollywood Mo would vote for. I wouldn't be surprised if he voted for himself. The writing is on the wall, Cardinal Mahoney!!!

I'm trying to remember specifics, but it had to do with an email that was leaked to the LA Times(and quickly dropped). It had to do with a police investigation, and the Archdiocese planning to obstruct justice. This was a couple of years ago. Apparently they were playing "hide the pedophile". I wish I could track it down.

LOL! I have to admit that thought crossed my mind, too!

Is this it? LA Ponders Charging Cardinal Mahoney (you'll have to scroll down a bit).
