Warbirds to take flight over Goshen
By RYAN FRIESEN
Goshen News Staff Writer
As many as 50 vintage aircraft from the World War II era are expected to land in Goshen over the weekend of April 29 to May 1.
In fact, theyll be doing more than landing, according to Airport Manager Randy Sharkey, Theyll be flying all weekend long.
The Goshen Municipal Airport is scheduled to play host to a regional warbird fly-in on the last weekend in April. Sharkey said he anticipates, among others, to see T-6s, T-34s and TB-Avengers. The fly-in has previously taken place in Seymour, but was moved to Goshen this year. The fly-in is not an air show, Sharkey was quick to point out at the monthly Board of Aviation Commissioner meeting Monday afternoon. There are no scheduled events for the public.
However, he said, the public is welcome to come and watch the planes. The fly-in is mostly just an event for the pilots who get together every year to socialize, share stories and stay current on their formation flying requirements. Some pilots will be working on their certification requirements over the weekend, Sharkey said.

One summer, a friend and I visited the WWII carrier USS Lexington, now berthed as a floating museum in Corpus Christi. That same weekend, the Confederate airforce did a show and much of the afternoon Corsairs and Zeroes buzzed around the Blue Ghost.
It was quite a treat to be on a vintage WWII carrier watching vintage warbirds engage in mock dog-fights over your head!
T34 MENTOR
Ryan meant TBF/TBM Avengers.
I didn't see ONE at Sun N' Fun last week!
Sure wish Randy hadn't trashed that S-11 Pursuit.
It is sad that the excessive stresses placed on a small number of these aircraft have resulted in this problem. It would seem to m (but what do I know) that the FAA revoking their aerobatic certification would be less draconian and "save" lives???
Camped out for a week at Oshkosh in 1984, getting to Sun N' Fun every year now (only 60 miles away from home). Quite a show every year!
Time to re-new my sub to KITPLANES.
