I'm not an expert on the Catholic church but although the Pope is voted on by men, is he not picked by the Holy Spirit? He is the "Vicker of Christ" and the earthly spokesman for the Lord...right? In that case, would not any Catholic that didn't like him or go against him, actually be going against the "Hand of God"? Pretty dangerous territory, if you ask me.

Fish Hawk: You are a little wrong. The Holy Spirit is hopefully "guiding" the choice because hopefully the cardinals invoked His guidance. But, no. The Holy Spirit does not pick the pope or we would have never had a bad one. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would protect the Church from destruction from either within or without. So, if the cardinals did make a mistake, the Holy Spirit would always protect the church from that person destroying the church. And its "Vicar" not Vicker. Hope this helps.
