It does. It's to keep the victims of clerical sexual abuse top of mind in the hierarchy.

This scandal was caused by the Church, covered up by the Church, and perpetuated by the Church. That is, by the hierarchy.

Many of them have had their lives ruined by people they trusted. Do you begrudge them wanting to get somebody in Rome to talk to them?

I'd prefer that the salvation of souls stay at the top of the mind of the hierarchy. Sin takes many forms besides this.

I am more worried by the fact that so many Catholics don't believe in the Real Presence. That had to do with bad teaching, not bad behavior.
