For years, he and his family had watched the Nazis strengthen their grip on Germany. His father, a policeman and a convinced anti-Nazi, moved the family at least once after clashing with local followers of the party. A local teacher, he remembered, became an ardent follower of the new movement, and tried to institute a pagan May pole ritual as more fitting of Germanic ways than the traditional, conservative Catholicism.

The Nazis were anti-Christian? That's not going to sit well with the left.

I don't know about that, it might engender in the Left warm feelings for Nazis.

One of the many problems with leftists is their total lack of historical knowledge. The Nazis were a neo-pagan cult who liked to march around bon fires with Wagner's "Die Valkyrie" playing in the background. Substitute a giant bong for the bon fire and drumming for the opera and you've got your typical meeting of MoveOn.Org.
