Dear gopwinsin04,
Actually, if MSNBC has reported correctly, that Pope Benedict received four more votes than required, then the Holy Father received 81 votes.
The required minimum was two-thirds of 115 voting cardinals, working out to be 77.
A mandate, nonetheless, especially considering that this was on the fourth ballot, I believe.

Thanks, so it is 81 votes instead of 91 votes? (on the 4th ballot)

I have not heard, on any other TV station or radio, any "count" on the ballots. I cannot imagine that anything MSNBC is reporting is true. There is no probable chance that a Cardinal released that information. Only the few who are selected to count them even know the exact amount, and I doubt those Cardinals would tell.
How is this alleged fact that Pope Benedict XVI won by 4 votes is being verified? Anyone know? Did it come from a fax machine in Dan Rather's old office??
