The Order of St Benedict has claimed by tradition that this pope will come from within the Order. St Benedict himself has prophesied that before the end of the world comes about, his Order will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil. The Order of St Benedict is also known as the OLIVETANS, which may well account for another interpretation of the prophecy. - from the prophecy of St. Malachy, regarding the next pope in line.
Either this is weirdly accurate, or the new pope has just forced the issue.

The Order of St Benedict has claimed by tradition that this pope will come from within the Order. But, Pope Benedict XVI is not a Benedictine; he is a secular priest, not ordained in a religous order.

If Pope BenedictXVI is truly the "Glory of the Olive", then Malachy's prophecy stands but St. Benedict's remains unfulfilled. Combined, it means the next final Pope will be a true Benedictine. Shall we start a new thread and make our guesses?

Ratzinger will have to have been a BENEDICTINE, of the Order of St. Benedict in order for this to have any relevance. So this speculation is mere fantasy.

"Either this is weirdly accurate, or the new pope has just forced the issue."Neither. The Holy Father is not of the Benedictine Order.
