The problem with the theory is that last time Krakatoa went off ~ and I mean really big time ~ in 538 AD it set off a planet-wide catastrophe called the DARK AGES.
A slight problem with that: The "Dark Ages" refers to the period following the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the Goths when past knowledge and learning were lost, only to be gradually recovered during the Renaissance, NOT to a lack of light. Secondly, there is no geologic evidence to show that Krakatoa erupted in the 500s.

No, the fall of the government of the Western Roman Empire happened in the 5th century ~ the Dark Ages began, in earnest in the 4th decade of the 6th century.
We know that because the Chinese Dark Age began at the same time and had absolutely nothing to do with a Gothic coup d'etat.
