That the warning of vulnerabilities is not something that MS "puts up with" every single day.

Oh, I am sorry, I did not realize you work at MS and therefore, have first hand knowledge of this. My fault.

Oh no, I don't work there. If I did perhaps I'd get the warnings. I'm just a mere user of their products.

I refuse to handicap my computer and cower in fear.

Wow. No virus has ever made me cower in fear. How does one handicap a computer anyway? =)

Why? Linux is sooooo much better and FireFox was obviously created by the hand of God or yaweh or allah or whoever you feel the divine entity is. Yeah, I'm being sarcastic on this one.

I have become a fan of Firefox and put it on every XP machine for which I'm responsible. It seems to have cut down on the adware :-)

By not allowing Java, Flash, useful cookies and so forth.

I know folks that have basically turned their browsers into a text-only tool, out of fear.

Actually, you are right. Firefox is pretty good and it does cut down on the ads. Crashes a LOT though. I never liked Netscape after 4.0, but Firefox seems to be the browser of the future.

Personally, I am not a big fan of Java, it is relatively slow, not as fully portable as claimed, and when it has an error it can freeze your browser or OS completely.

It does seem to crash more than it should.

Hard to believe. Some people just don't understand browers at all. Cookies are harmless, they are text only and cannot be executed or run an executable program. Java and Flash can be dangerous, in the wrong hands, but I personally have never seen them used for malicious activity. Javascript can't access your OS either.

I am sure they are aware of this and will fix it. I always hit the "send" button when it asks if I want to report the error because, as a software developer, I am aware of how helpful feedback, from the average user, can be.

My boss says he will never get computer because he fears viruses.

A surgical mask, rubber gloves and sanitizer will take care of that for him.

Tell your boss to put the abbacus away and come into the light.

Actually, the funny thing is when Secunia finds flaws with MS products, and it does frequently, the Kneepad Microserfs show up claiming they are evil foreigners who run linux and just publish the flaws to make MS look bad. Then they say the vulnerabilities are not that serious. Then they tell everyone they should update.

They have one thing dead on: everyone should update.

In the last week my Apple has had a security patch, my Winboxes have had patches and FF had an update. It's a part of life on the internet, and if you can't deal with that, unplug and STFU (not you: the whiners in general).

unplug and STFU

I agree.  And could not have said it better myself.

Everytime my wife complains about an error she makes while using MS-Word, I go get a pen and paper and tell her to enjoy handwriting that 10 page legal brief the way they used to in "the good old days".

You got a lawyer to give up WordDefect? I'm impressed. I still get into snarling matches with our legal weasels over that.

People are quick to jump on MS because the length that vulnerabilities are out there not just that they exist.. For all the chest beating that the MS crowd does about OSS people who claim that their software has no bugs I have never seen it happen..
