Ann Coulter and I were well into a bottle of white Bordeauxand I believe she was chewing her fourth piece of Nicorettewhen it happened. From what little I knew of hermainly her propensity for declamations such as "liberals love America like O.J. loved Nicole"I thought it impossible for Coulter to blush. Many of her fans would later tell me it was her fearlessness they admired, her fully unburdened sense of outrage against liberalism, against anyone left of Joseph McCarthy (whom Coulter flattered in her best-selling book Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism).

No. It's idiotic lines like this one and the know-it-all attitudes behind them that unburden Ms. Coulter's (and most Americans') outrage against liberalism!

For what it's worth, even this little glimpse gave me more empathy for Ann. I, too, struggle with meetings where people ask me dumb questions.
I'm impressed it only required 4 pieces of Nicorette. I've been known to need 8 or 9, depending on the circumstances and the stupid questions.

John (Cloud) has become Annie's latest "victim". Like a deer in the headlights, he is frozen, transfixed. Horrified by what he sees, he cannot look away.
From the article:
At the reception after her CPAC speech, she mocked some of the more ornate claims of torture from suspected terrorists detained by the U.S.: "It's completely insane stuff. 'The government flew me to Las Vegas and made me have sex with a horse,'" she said to laughter. But then she added with a grin, "Liberals are about to become the last people to figure out that Arabs lie." How did such a flagrantly impolitic person become such a force in our politics?
Because she speaks the truth, John, she speaks out when others are too timid, and because she stands her ground!
All in all, an interesting article on "our" Annie that is sure to piss off liberals.

It really does not read like a hit-piece. However, I also don't really think it gets far under her skin. He doesn't apparently ask what I think would have been more get-to-the-heart questions, probably because he can't.
These will be used to hurt her:
"most of what I say, I say to amuse myself and amuse my friends. I don't spend a lot of time thinking about anything beyond that."
Coulter told me that when her editor suggests cutting a line from a column to save space, "I'll ask him, 'But is it funny?' And if he says it's funny, I'll cut an actual fact [instead]."
As with Limbaugh, the best They can do is minimize her as a self-centered joker, no one to take seriously. Not like thoughtful, nuanced liberals, who really ought to be making the big decisions for us all.

Theyre terrible people, liberals. They believethis can really summarize it allthese are people who believe you can deliver a baby entirely except for the head, puncture the skull, suck the brains out and pronounce that a constitutional right has just been exercised. That really says it all. You dont want such people to like you! Indeed.

The cover photo is a nice take-off on that Bill Clinton crotch shot from a few years back. Can anyone do a side-by-side?

I enjoy Ann's writing very much and look forward to her weekly column every Thursday. I like her biting wit and sarcasm. I have read all her books and enjoyed them. Her last book was primarily a compilation of her older articles. On TV she does not come off as well. She seems shrill and whinny. Overall I enjoy her very much and I am glad she is on our side. I can understand why she would drive the liberals up the wall.

Here's the subtitle:
"She is quite possibly the most divisive figure in the public eye. But love her or hate her, you don't know the real Ann Coulter"
"Most divisive figure"??? Ever hear of Michael Moore, Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, Ward Churchill??? I guess at Time Magazine, they're not 'divisive'.

Requires registration to read the article. Even an encomium to Ann Coulter isn't worth having someone in the Times office having my name and address.

Disturbing to read that she has a stalker whom she believes will someday kill her. I know what this is like; I have the same situation. No wonder she has been photographed shooting. Too bad she lives in New York where she'd have a hard time legally justifying her own self-defense.
