Destro: "America - which is a polyreligous nation of mostly half faithfuls (religous on Sundays not so the rest of the week) - thinks it can win a war of religous conversion against Islam. "

bill1952: "I hope that we don't really believe that we could convert anyone to our lack of faith."

"Because you have it right. - We can't convert anyone.
Hell, just read the MSM screaming about how horrible America is; how criminal President Bush is; how terrible the GOP is."

Well, yes, we can't convert anyone. That's not really the purpose of our nation, nor was that the point of Ann's comment. Ann's comment "convert them to Christianity"--I always took to be an assignment to Christians--echoing Matthew 28:19 " 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

The ultimate responsibility for conversion is God: John 6:44 "No man can come to me [Jesus Christ] unless the Father in heaven draws him."

The Christian responsibility is to preach the gospel.

Now, as far as a conversion battle between Islam and Christianity, Africa is prime example of Christianity winning--there are more Christians added there this century than Islam. The fact Islamic nations forbid conversions and preaching at the point of death indicates Christianity is the clear winner. There are still Christians converted there.

The counter example is the success of Islam in the US and Africa and Asia. Islam is successful against animist type religions, nihilism, and secularism. There is a real spiritual need in humanity and Islam fulfills that better than these religions. But you don't read about too many Christians converting to Islam nor do you see death sentences on such converts.

Bill1952: "Our Boy Scouts are being hounded out of existence by the ACLU, and someone in this country thinks that we could convert anyone of faith? LOL!!"

Well, the ACLU couldn't. But perhaps the Boy Scouts could.

Nobody was discussing the purpose of our nation.

We were discussing the inability of America to convert anyone of any stripe.

And actually that was one of the points of Ann's comment.
