DCF: Terri Schiavo Not Abused, Exploited

State Agency: Terri Schiavo Was Not Abused or Exploited by Either Side of Her Family

Apr. 16, 2005 - State investigators found no evidence that Terri Schiavo had been abused or exploited by either side of her family, according to documents released by Florida's Department of Children and Families.

The agency investigated 89 complaints dating back to 2001, when Schiavo's feeding tube was removed for the first time and the legal battle surrounding her right-to-die case intensified.

The calls alleged that the brain-damaged woman was being mistreated by her husband and her parents for financial gain. One complaint alleged that Schiavo's parents were selling videos of her through a Web site; another said Schiavo's husband wasn't spending money intended for her rehabilitation.

But investigators said they found no evidence that either her husband or parents were exploiting her, and often noted in their records that they found Schiavo well cared for on their visits to her Pinellas Park hospice.

The agency released the records Friday under court order.

Schiavo, 41, died last month after her feeding tube was removed for the third time, ending a bitter court battle between her husband, Michael Schiavo, and parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, over whether she would have wanted to live in a vegetative state.

The repeated allegations of abuse were based partly on bone scans showing Terri Schiavo suffered fractures and statements she made to family and friends that she was unhappy in her marriage.

Schiavo's husband has denied harming his wife. His lawyer said the fractures resulted from osteoporosis caused by the woman's years of immobility and complications of her medication.

Robert Schindler declined to comment there on the release of the DCF documents. An attorney for Michael Schiavo did not immediately return calls.

I don't recall scripture that commands us to bring water to people. I do remember a scripture that says "when I was thristy, you brought me water."

Who among the people at the hospice brougth Terri water. Abosolutely no one. Even the protesters were bringing water "symbolically." No one said fate be damned, she's getting water. So if there was a commandment to bring water, then those who stood by and stood vigil at the hospice were just as quilty as you claim Greer, Felos, Michael , Gov Bush, Pres Bush and others. IF that commandment exists, then each of those people who held vigil have the stain of her blood just as much as those who signed the papers to let her die.

She was allowed to die. She could have not existed without aided non traditional nutrition and hydration. We would treat a dog better than to hook them up with a tube and let them soil themselves daily.

She was allowed to die. Man is kinder to his pets than to allow them to soil themselves day after day. To lay crippled day after day. To not be able to eat normal food.

If Terri had explicitly stated in a living will that feeding tube procedures are to be avoided, would you be satisfied with the outcome?

You are welcome...Many of us have already had to deal with end of life issues in our own families, and every story is different...Sharing those stories can be difficult, yet they show, how different people in different situations, have been able to get through those situations...

I do not know of your handicap or the extent of it. So spare me. And obviously, you have no handicap with vitriol. And if the prolife cause wants to use my writings, more power to them. I invite them. Actually, I would like to see them use your reply to me to show how well you walk in the shadow of Christ and how the lmovemoent works in Christ's name. And frankly, I would love to have the ability to meet Jesus in person. I'm not scared. What you are fighting here is a last desperate attempt by a small percentage to justify that they supported the killing of Terri for what ever reason they found to do so.

It is guilt plain and simple and you are part of the brunt of that guilt.

A girl falls into a well. This well -- Terri's, was one that many people stood around with ropes and ladders. You call them a circus. People such as you went to the Judge and ordered a peace. Like you, they didn't want the "circus". The Judges so agreed; the police enforced a peace achieved by pouring concrete down the well, girl and all.

The concrete hardened.

All peaceful now. All quiet.
